The pursuit of happyness.

"ParadoxIn Singapore, we have that peculiar First World paradox in which the more our material needs are satisfied, the more emotionally perturbed we get until we find ourselves sitting atop a mountain of shopping, crying our eyes out." - John Lui.

It's sunday again, my favorite day to blog.
Daddy is busy maintaining the house -  a perfect excuse to indulge in writing.
An activity that I find really liberating.

This morning, while waiting for babe to get ready for work,
I joined Mama Chan at the sofa, browsing over the day's papers
and I saw this really interesting read:

"Trying to be happy, is very hard work" - John Lui (Straits Times)

In a nut shell, it's a first world scenario.
I won't say that it is a problem,
it 's just the environment that we are in.

We have all our basic needs satisfied,
what's next for us to achieve?
Better service, material comfort , faster responses to our problem.
they term it "instant gratification".

We buy things we do not need,
gadgets that we do not know to how to best maximize its functions,
clothes that we will only wear once,
skin care that we stop using, because we are too "busy".

There are hell a lot of solutions out there to teach you to be happy.
ignore, be contented.. etc etc.
Ain't it the same as telling me that it is okay, because everyone else is like that.
without solving the crux of my unhappiness?.
How then can I solve this? turn 3rd world?

That's ridiculous.
It's akin to asking a child to throw away his toy, to learn to appreciate it.
